In poor taste and probably untrue

Give a homeless man a box of fish sticks and he'll eat for a day
Point the homeless man in the general direction of a Wal-Mart in front of which he can
beg for money for fish sticks, and he'll eat for a lifetime... at least until people realize he won't actually be buying fish sticks with the money he'll be getting and he moves on to the Wal-Mart one town over.

I think the only "untrue" part of that is that he probably won't have to go one town over... just a few miles down the road to the next walmart!

Ah yes the problem with beggars. They say that prostitution is the worlds oldest profession, well I think that begging is at least as old if not older.
Prostitution seems to be alive and healthy after thousands of years and I'm afraid that begging is too. Do you think that beggars thousands of years ago held signs anouncing to the world that they were hungry, stranded and homeless? And of course they would have had to include the obligatory "God Bless". Hmmm, or possibly "Baal Bless"
